A lawyer studies and practises law. The functions of a lawyer include offering legal advice and representing clients in legal matters. A lawyer is a professional. In America, a lawyer is called an attorney. To become a lawyer, one has to go through professional education and exams in a law school. There are many kinds of lawyers, including solicitors and barristers. Some qualified lawyers may also work as legal advisers or consultants in companies.
