“Let off steam”

Meaning: to do something to release bad feelings or emotions.
Joe: Why do you look so angry, Cheryl?
Cheryl: I’m in an extremely bad mood now because my younger sister has spilled her hot chocolate on my watercolours.
Joe: You mean your submission work for the drawing competition next week?
Cheryl: Yes, that’s the drawing! You know how much time I have spent on it. It’s all down the drain now!
Joe: Oh, don’t worry! Have an ice-cream to let off steam first and try your best to finish another drawing in time for the submission. I’m always here to help you.
