Meaning: to make someone feel very frightened.
John: I’m really worried, Mary!
Mary: What are you worrying about?
John: I’ve made a bet with Peter that if Donald wins, I’ll go to Macau and try Bungee Jump on the tower.
Mary: Oh, John! You’re afraid of heights, why did you make such a bet?
John: Why? Because I thought Donald wouldn’t win! But I was obviously wrong. To everyone’s surprise, he did win! Now, simply the thought of jumping down from the top of the tower has already made my hair stand on end!
